Stores Assistant

About this role 

The Stores Assistant is a key member of our team, responsible for the accurate and efficient receipt, checking, storage and control of materials, components and consumables within the Stores department. The role primarily focuses on Goods-In and day-to-day Stores operations, ensuring incoming materials are correctly received, identified, recorded, stored, and available for use.

Reporting to the Stores Manager, you will maintain accurate stock records, support stock checks, and ensure the Stores area is organised, safe, and efficient. Capital is a fast-paced environment, and Production can never stop because materials are unavailable, so this role suits someone organised, with great attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and reporting discrepancies or issues.

Key responsibilities 
Goods-In and Receiving
  • Receive incoming materials, components, metalwork and consumables.
  • Check deliveries against POs and delivery documents re. quantities, descriptions and condition.
  • Identify and report damaged, missing, incorrect or non-conforming materials.
  • Ensure goods are correctly identified, labelled and transferred to the appropriate storage location.
  • Process Goods-In accurately through SAP Business One.
  • Ensure all relevant paperwork and system records are completed promptly and accurately.
  • Process supplier returns in accordance with Company procedures.

 

Stock Control & Inventory Management
  • Maintain accurate physical and system stock records, using clear locations and labelling.
  • Ensure all stock movements are recorded correctly in SAP Business One.
  • Complete rolling stock checks, cycle counts and stocktakes as required.
  • Investigate and report stock discrepancies.
  • Support the identification of slow-moving, obsolete or incorrectly stored materials.

 

Stores Operations
  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment where trained and authorised.
  • Maintain an organised, clean and accessible Stores environment.
  • Store goods and materials safely and appropriately to prevent damage, loss or deterioration.
  • Assist with the efficient use of Stores space and stock locations.
  • Handle materials using appropriate equipment and manual handling techniques.
  • Assist with general Stores activities and priorities as required.

 

Production and Internal Support
  • Support the Materials Controller in ensuring materials are available to support Production.
  • Locate and retrieve materials when required.
  • Assist with picking and issuing materials accurately where required.
  • Communicate stock discrepancies, damaged materials or potential shortages promptly.
  • Respond positively to changing priorities and urgent requests.

 

Communication & Teamwork
  • Work closely with Stores colleagues and with the Procurement & Logistics and Production teams.
  • Communicate issues clearly and promptly.
  • Always ask questions where information, quantities or materials do not appear correct.
  • Contribute to a responsive, organised and solutions-focused Stores team.

 

Cross-over (where needed)
  • Provide cover for the Materials Controller and/or Stores Administrator during periods of absence or when required, in relation to duties where you have been trained up on.
  • Assist with Production-facing Stores activities, including picking, issuing and checking materials.
  • Where appropriately trained, support the Stores Administrator with Stores admin and SAP duties.

 

Health, & Safety
  • Carry out all Stores activities safely, following Company procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Maintain an awareness of the hazards associated with Stores duties.
  • Use tools, equipment, PPE and manual handling techniques correctly and only undertake moving/lifting activities for which you have been trained and authorised.
  • Follow all required safety controls and procedures before commencing tasks.
  • Stop work and immediately report any unsafe conditions, defects or potential risks.
  • Keep your work area clean, organised and safe, taking a “clean as you go” approach to ensure Stores is kept safe and tidy.
  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged goods, equipment defects or other potential risks immediately.

 

General

Requirements
Must Have
  • 3+ years’ experience in a Stores / Warehouse in a manufacturing environment – ideally electrical manufacturing, switchgear, control panels or a similar technical manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a busy manufacturing environment, ideally supporting Production.
  • Current Forklift licence (Counter balance, and ideally also Reach)
  • Good understanding of Goods-In, stock control, picking and stock movements.
  • Experience using an ERP or stock management system, preferably SAP Business One.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent attention to detail and focus on stock accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage changing priorities.
  • Proactive approach, with the ability to identify and resolve potential material shortages.
  • Good communication and teamwork, confident to ask questions if something does not look right.
  • Commitment to working safely and following Capital’s procedures.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland (with current valid work permit if needed).
  • Full driving licence.

 

Nice to Have
  • Experience working with MRP or ERP-driven Production environments.
  • Knowledge of electrical components, metalwork, cables or other technical materials.
  • Experience with stocktakes, cycle counting and inventory investigations.
Benefits
  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • Based primarily on site in our factory in Rathcoole, Co Dublin.
  • Working hours are 07:30-16:30 Mon-Thurs and 07:30-13:30 Fri.
  • Salary €16 – €20 per hour, negotiable depending on experience & interview.
